Founded in 1983, Envisioneering initially assisted clients in the Northeastern U.S. with contract engineering designs, revenue model development, market development, specializing on medical electronics, vehicular electronics, portable electronics along with exploitingdigital imaging products, services and advanced storage technologies.
In late 1990, after assisting Steve Wozniak with navigating Washington and local techno-regulatory policies while helping publish the first EFFector newsletter for the Electronic Frontier Foundation (which Wozniak helped fund and launch) the first Envisioneering newsletter was soon published - in the winter of 1991.
Wozniak then generously expanded Envisioneering's mobile facilities, personal computing and communications systems with no restriction other than we continue to help make people smarter, to champion how exciting and fun it was to be an engineer, and help inform students and professionals alike with facts and perspective that they were not likely to obtain elsewhere. The goal: to focus on the wonders, joy and social responsibilities of exploiting advanced digital technologies, products and services on a global scale..
Wozniak's sole fiscal request - make this kind of information available to as many professionals, engineers, software writers, students, educators, lawmakers & writers as possible - while making sure to stay profitable enough to stay in business.
The newsletter and consulting practices overlapped, converged and expended to attract new professionals, and broader geographic reach. That and self-sufficiency allowed Envisioneering to expand its analyst coverage focus to many new areas of social technology policy marketing, industry standards evolution while also enjoying our ongoing industry executive, "media mogul" and policy maker access and dialogues.
We like to think we have achieved that goal, dedicating high percentages of our team's time to assisting students, educators and journalists who could not otherwise afford access to Envisioneering's expertise and perspective, while subsidizing that offering with publishing, news alerts, managerial consulting services and testing revenue from the executives who are inventing the future. To a person, Envisioneering analysts are barred from trading stock in the companies and industries which they cover and specialize in.
Many say our strength is in our diversity of interests. As policy makers (such as the FCC recognize) no single industry is repsonsible for more than a small fraction of Envisioneering revenue. Hence, by covering satellite, broadcast, cable, telco and multiple wireless technologies and industry sectors, we are able to bring better perspective to each segment and to all the creative talents, distributotrs and digital products which separately - and together - extend the services reach to exisiting and new consumer and business audiences.
Similarly, with expertise in Cellular, terrestrial wireless, 802.X, BlueTooth, Zigbee and UWB systems, we are able to confidently guide chip companines, game developers, software and services providers and consumer appliance makers with how these new systems best serve their ambitions and needs. It is not easy to stay abreast of so many technology sectors - to say nothing of the many standards groups and public policies which guide, propel or inhibit their rollout. Yet, this diversity is Envisioneering's core competitive strength versus our esteemed competition, which usually can afford to cover just a few sectors - leaving them less agile in being able to assist industry and consumers than they might be able to do, otherwise.
Through the years, we have helped bring life-saving medical devices and servics to maarket. We were a key force in helping unify the rival MMCD and SD disc formats into the world-wide information and entertainment disc media phenomenon we now call DVD. We helped communications companies lay millions of miles of fiber optic cable under public land by helping identify a simple win-win business-public benefit tradeoff. And, we have successfully identified and helped kill off so many incomplete products and serviecs over the years that we have lost count. Yet we have not forgotten the many lessons learned, legacies we share with clients and partners in progress.
Today, we pride ourselves on being bullish on the people, policy makers, artists, services, technologies and products which empower consumer-scale enjoyment of news, information, music & video entertainment whenever and wherever people want.
We respect and defend the rights of consumers to enjoy these digital technology propelled devices, new media and communications experiences. At the same time, we enjoy assisting artists, content owners, techn ologists, financiers and distributors with delivering as much rich content and broad consumer access as possible inthis Digital Era. All the time, keeping in mind the goal to avoid devastating their existing legacy business models so that they, too, have a stake in the Digital Future.
It is not an easy balance, but all of us at Envisioneeirng enjoy being a part of this digital revolution and the journeywe all sahre! Welcome to Envisioneering! Thanks for stopping by. Tell your friends and associates! Do, please, come and visit us again!
